This is Sansho

After travelling all over Japan, we were amazed that no-one sold all these beautiful Japanese things.  So we took it upon ourselves to set up Sansho and provide an outlet for all the makers we met.

There are many aspects to our project.  While not agreeing with everything they said, the memory of Yanagi Sōetsu, Hamada Shōji and Bernard Leach and their definition of 'mingei' was influential as well as the philosophy of Fukanzen no bi.

But it is as much a practical project as an aesthetic one: if in some small way we can help keep some workshops open, and maybe even attract young people back to the crafts and countryside of Japan, then we will have succeeded.
