Yanase san grew up in a family known for Washi making, but he has followed his heart and branched out on his own into ceramics. He would be the first to admit that his technique isn't perfect, but he is learning fast. He has a nice naive approach to shape and texture as can be seen in all his designs.

Part of what we have to do is encourage younger potters and help them experiment with us so that we can keep new talent developing. Although his parents still think this is an expensive hobby, and wonder why he can't go into the Washi business, which is still a busy local industry.
