Sekisou Lidded Koh-Ro Incense Container

£69000

We sometimes get pieces for the Chinese tea ceremony, but they are often taken before making their way online. This is an incense container designed to use in the Chinese tea ceremony, but it stands alone as a sculptural piece with the triangle legs echoed in the triangular lid pull. The delicacy of the layered sekisou lid is testament to Izumita san's skill.

This comes in a signed box as provenance.

  • 10cm Diameter, 13cm High
  • Stoneware (see our Care Guide)
  • Not suitable for dishwashing
  • Handmade by Izumita san at his kiln in the North Eastern prefecture of Iwate

Meet the Maker:

Izumita Yukiya

Based in the North of Japan in Iwate prefecture, far away from the traditional centres of ceramics in Japan, Izumita Yukiya creates sculptural pieces inspired by geology.

His making often features strips and layers of clay, influenced by geological strata, which could be interpreted as the eternal layering and relayering of the earth. His pieces are now in major galleries in the US and Japan as his reputation continues to rise.
