Septagonal Oak Ash Brushstrokes Choko

£5500

Depending on your counting, these could be septagonal or nonagonal! But their rough hewn and irregular construction is part of their charm. The streaks of oak ash glaze contrast with the textured black clay used by Hiraoka san.

  • 7cm Diameter, 5cm High
  • Stoneware (see our Care Guide)
  • Not suitable for dishwashing
  • Handmade by Hiraoka san at his kiln near Mashiko in Central Japan

Meet the Maker:

Hiraoka Jin

Hiraoka san's work has a sculptural roughness to it and is often combined with a crackle glaze for maximum effect - or with one of the vibrant blue wood ash glazes which is becoming a signature of his.

Hiraoka san is great company, chatting about football, cars or dogs, and his cheerful demeanour comes through in his hand-made ceramics.
