This bright white lattice reminded us of a tartan, and the name has stuck! An unusually bright colour, it is a cheerful choko which really stands out among the traditional browns, yellows and greys of other makers

Meet the Maker:

Hagiwara Yoshinori

Hagiwara Yoshinori is the fifth generation of the Hagiwara family ceramic workshop. He is very keen on preparing clays and glazes in his garden from the local resources by himself.
He uses a variety of kilns and is an incurable kiln collector but he particularly likes his Noborigama climbing kiln that he built. With the knowledge gained through his experience firing the Noborigama, he is called “the god of Noborigama” by other local potters.
He often uses colourful and interesting glazes to complement his skilful making.
