Matsumoto san's garden is littered with fantastic creatures constructed from intricate, sculpted, articulated pieces of stoneware. His creativity and three-dimensional modelling is exceptional.
So it makes sense that his smaller pieces are equally well modelled, but quite how he gets such a realistic grain texture on his pieces is a trade secret. It is only when you get up close and handle them that they are obviously ceramic. The gold from the manganese glaze adds just enough lustre and depth to these organic and mysterious pieces.
