Slipped Gosu Bowl
Historically cobalt decoration was prized because it could sit under the glaze (or "in-glaze" as the Japanese say), and the intricate pictures and motifs would survive the kiln unscathed. Hiraoka san turns this on its head and intentionally gets his design to melt and slip until it is just a faintly recognisable blurry scribble. The warped rim of the bowl, and the beautiful blue tones from the additional oak ash glaze turn these into little treasures!
