Donten Pasta Plate

£4200

Yanase san gave the name Donten, which means "cloud" in Japanese, to these plates for obvious reasons. The variation in the glaze and the slight irregularities in the form are really pleasing and the glaze itself has a slightly soapy feel making these plates lovely to use and hold as well.

  • 23cm Diameter, 5cm High
  • Stoneware, dishwasher safe (see our Care Guide)
  • Hand thrown by Yanase san at the Yanase Kiln in Echizen on the North side of Japan.
Meet the Maker:

Yanase Tobo

We only found Yanase san because of a single rice bowl we saw in an Echizen "michi-no-eki". We used a spare afternoon to track him down and we have worked together ever since.

His Donten glaze is particularly popular and we have expanded the range to include ramen bowls and sushi plates. Still working from his parents' house, he has managed to complete projects for restaurants and designers across the world.
