Fukushima Sake or Tea Cups

£1800

Fukushima san uses the shinogi technique to carve and decorate his white-glazed pieces, although they often have shades of grey and off-white too. Derived from the pattern on swords and knife blades, shinogi simply means 'ridged'. Lovely to hold and use, whether for sake or tea, these are available with straight shinogi ridges or slanted shinogi ridges

  • 6.5cm High, 7.5cm Diameter
  • Stoneware, Dishwasher safe (see our Care Guide)
  • Handmade in Mashiko village by Fukushima san, East Japan

Meet the Maker:

Fukushima Kiln

Fukushima san's work features swirling hand-carved indentations called shinogi. Whether they remind you of ripples in the water, flowers or maybe the ripples in sand dunes, they are incredibly tactile and satisfying to touch. Fukushima san prefers a bright white body, but our taste leans towards the pieces more flecked with yellow and grey.
