These beaker style yunomi from the Izumita Kiln have the beautiful marbled finish that he is renowned for. Ranging from whites and creams through to oranges and blacks, they really do look as if they are formed from the stone itself.

Meet the Maker:

Izumita Yukiya

Based in the North of Japan in Iwate prefecture, far away from the traditional centres of ceramics in Japan, Izumita Yukiya creates sculptural peices inspired by geology.

His making often features strips and layers of clay, influenced by geological strata, which could be interpreted as the eternal layering and relayering of the earth. His pieces are now in major galleries in the US and Japan as his reputation continues to rise.
