Metal cutlery and wooden lacquer do not mix, so we have this elegant handmade lacquer Chestnut spoon specifically made to match the curve on our lacquer bowls.

From the Asada Workshop, near the coast of Ishikawa prefecture on the North side of Honshū

Care Guide

These are not suitable for putting in the dishwasher, microwave or oven, and please do not use metal cutlery as it will damage the lacquer. (Although some of the chopsticks are dishwashable and are clearly marked as such, if you are in any doubt, please just ask us)

Wooden and lacquered items can seem difficult to care for but with a few simple rules, they can actually last for a long time. Please hand wash with care: do not immerse for any length of time or use an abrasive cleaning pad, and dry with a soft cloth as soon as you can after washing, then give a final wipe with a dry cloth to prevent any dulling.

Do not place in direct sunlight, this can cause discolouration or deformation. Although in Japanese aesthetics worn or discoloured lacquer shows the length of time you have used something and some people view this wear as very attractive.
