Soy Sauce Plate

£1200

Sometimes our customer ask for the unexpected. After several request for soy sauce plates, we have these lovely little plates from the Yanase kiln. Soy sauce has a habit of getting inside even the toughest glaze, so these have a dark centre to catch and hold your soy sauce. Of course, if you want to use these for salads or bisuits, or as a saucer, then please do!

Hand thrown by Yanase san at the Yanase Kiln in Echizen on the North side of Japan.

  • 1.5cm High, 9.0cm Wide, 9.0cm Long
  • Stoneware (please see the Care Guide below)
  • These are dishwashable
  • These can be used in the microwave

Care Guide

Like all tableware and handmade homewares, our products should be used with some degree of care to help keep them looking good.

These can be put in the dishwasher and microwave, but for the Brown Sujitsuki plates we have noticed some clouding after being in the dishwasher which can usually be polished out, but to be on the safe side, please wash by hand (this applies only to the Sujitsuki style, the Donten style is fine in the dishwasher). Please take care using metal cutlery with these handmade plates, dark glazes always show knife marks more than white ones.

These are all food safe and conform to BS6748:1986 + A1:2011 (Toxic Metal Release)

Meet the Maker:

Yanase Tobo

We only found Yanase san because of a single rice bowl we saw in an Echizen "michi-no-eki". We used a spare afternoon to track him down and we have worked together ever since.

His Donten glaze is particularly popular and we have expanded the range to include ramen bowls and sushi plates. Still working from his parents' house, he has managed to complete projects for restaurants and designers across the world.
