Tatsumi Dark Reed Glaze Tea Bowl
Susuki or Japanese Silver Grass (often translated as "reed" in English) is used to thatch buildings on Kyushu and often fields are owned by a collective of families who take turns sharing the reed to thatch their family homes. It is very unusual to find it used as a glaze, but the susuki fields are close by Naganuma san's home and he doesn't need much to make a glaze! Rough red clay and the simple organic reed glaze lend an awful lot of character to this beautiful chawan.
