Ajiro Indigo Gathered Shades

£21600
Size Guide Right
1 in stock

The kasuri technique softens this geometric "ajiro" basket pattern. The ground is a deep indigo, and the pattern stands out when the light is off and softens when the light is on. A very versatile but interesting colour and pattern which looks at home in the town or country, with modern or traditional decor.

  • 100% Kasuri dyed cotton, from the Nomura workshop in the famous town of Kurume, Kyūshū
  • Shibori is an ancient dying process where the cloth is squeezed, knotted, twisted or folded before dying to make a huge variety of patterns. Arimatsu Chosei uses the Itajime technique where the cloth is folded and then clamped before dying to make beautiful geometric patterns. The folding itself is a labrious process but then the indigo dying is equally time consuming.

    • 100% Kasuri dyed cotton, from the Arimatsu Chosei workshop in Nagoya
